Was the Bible Written by Satan?

Pretend you're on a jury for a trial over who wrote the Bible: God is suing Satan, because Satan is trying to claim HE wrote the Bible! But the trial hasn't gone like God hoped – Satan has a really good lawyer, and he's making mincemeat of God's case.

First of all, if God wrote the Bible, wouldn't He make everything totally clear, succinct, easy to understand, and unfailingly moral? I mean, He is God, right? Surely God should be a pretty good writer, able to write clearly and concisely.

Instead of beating around the bush about Jesus' divinity, He would just say, "Jesus and I are one and the same." Instead of conflicting messages about marriage, ambiguity about homosexuality, apparent approval of polygamy and slavery, God would have written, "Don't have sex before you're married." "Marriage is only between a man and a woman." "Slavery is a sin." "A man may only have one wife, and a wife only one husband." And so forth. Gosh, it seems pretty easy to me, writing clear, unambiguous commandments!

Just based on poor writing and lack of clarity, it's not looking good for God and His lawyer.

On top of that, there's all that stuff about killing adulterers, expelling a couple from the community if they have sex during a woman's period, requiring a virgin who is raped to marry her rapist, stoning anyone to death who works on the sabbath, and so many more laws that are just plain immoral.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, do you really believe that God wrote this stuff about Himself?

Now think about the reverse. What if you were Satan, plotting to do the worst thing you could? You're tired of tempting people into sin — corrupting people one at a time is inefficient. What could you do to amplify your evil? Why not enlist your victims to help you spread evil?

We all know that half-truths are much more dangerous than outright lies, that confusion is much harder to fight than clarity, and that we're all egotistical and want to believe we're better than everyone else.

The best way Satan could get his way would be to write a Bible that was filled with half truths, contradictions, moral ambiguity, appeals to egotism and a "chosen people," and confusing stories that everyone can interpret however they like.

Then, Satan would get his minions to convince the world that this "Bible" was the true word of God. Better yet, Satan would spread the idea that anyone who disagreed would go to Hell (very clever irony, given that he is Satan).

These half truths, contradictions and ambiguities would then start to do their work. People would interpret them differently, and begin to argue, and split into factions. Families would split. Villages would break into religious factions, with bitter hatred for one another. Whole countries would even go to war over this purported "Bible." People would be tortured and murdered when they failed to follow this "Bible," even if they were trying to do their best, just because someone else interpreted the Bible's crazy laws differently.

Satan would laugh with glee. What a wonderful trick he'd pulled!

Better yet, the fear inspired by Satan's Big Lie (about going to Hell if you don't believe) would cause good people to actually defend Satan's own writings! They would start a huge intellectual effort called "Christian apologetics," devoted to explaining why, in spite of the glaring errors, contradictions and immorality in Satan's Bible, it was actually all true, and was in fact the word of Satan's arch-rival, God. This would be Satan's ultimate achievement, that the humans that God created would actually turn against God and defend Satan's Bible!

So, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, what is your opinion? Who wrote the Bible, God, or Satan?

  1. Loki the Father of Lies wrote every version of the 'bible' in order to sow discord in the world.

Loki is known to speak from the sky and burning wood. He likes to give rules and instructions to mortals that will cause conflict and harm.

His goal is to cause a war that will end the entire world.

    1. The people need someone to antagonize, someone who they can say all evil and suffering comes from, otherwise "God" would be the source of evil and you can't be rewarded for worshiping "God" and avoiding evil, AKA "God". With "Satan", people have someone to hate, avoid, and ostracize. There can't be priests and witches (and other "servants of Satan") to kill and torture, if both groups worship "God".

  3. Why would Satan mention himself?

Why because there was already a bible, and he only twisted small fragments of it, creating half-truths instead of outright lies.
A bible without Satan in it is a bit... suspicious

  5. That can be true what you say there, but the guestion can't be answered.

Don't think of me as an egoistic bastard, but It could, COULD be that the bible just was made by human?
Some say that Jesus was a messiah. SOme other says he just was a political weapon.
To join is much beacuse of they need to regret, and give their sins to one other.

Don't be mad at me, I respect people who has a religion, but I hope they will respect my opinion.

  6. The Bible is clear. Humans are the ones twisting its meaning because of Satan. The King James version is the most correct out of all the versions. The Bible is there, clear, in black and white. And since you can't accept whats there, you drag out your own meaning from it.

    1. The bible is not clear that's why so many different denominations exsist that read the same version of the bible it is clearly left to interpretation and how is it god's word when a group of men known as the council of constantine voted on which scriptures would and would not go in the bible? Even if the bible is god's word wouldn't the original hebrew and greek scriptures be closer to the truth than the later interpretation/"translation" known as the king james bible? And if god is benevolent why does he participate in such malicious acts ie. the barbaric and pagan-style human scarifice of his only son as the only means of redeeming the world that he makes all the rules for; the unfair treatment of job just to prove a point to satan; the absolute blind obidence or eternal damnation of his children; a kingdom of paradise he knows only a small few will join while the majority of the world will be doomed to the lake of fire; etc. Seem to me more like a devil than a benevolent god. I believe in god but I still don't know where I stand with christianity or any other religion for that matter but to each his own if you are christian you should focus more on living like jesus did and and touching as many lives as you can and making this world a better place than you should on scriptures and technicalities that may or may not get you into heaven

    2. The denominations exist because we interpreted the bible with our presuppositions. Yes, the Hebrew and Greek texts are actually much clearer (Now you can easily reference them with the growing technology). God never told anybody to do child sacrifice (except to Abraham for the purpose of prophetically telling him that God is going to do that). God sacrifice Himself (read Isaiah) to redeemed mankind, because He so loved the world (not wanting anyone to perish). Job? It is an object lesson, to show how big and great this God of the bible is. None of His children will be damned (this is the whole point of why Christ must die). It seems that the lack of understanding what the whole bible is about led to this kind of response. Let me urge you to read and understand the whole bible. It is a message of Love from a Holy God that requires perfection and gave us HIS perfection so that we can be with HIM. It is a love story written in blood over 2000 years ago to you and me. I hope you get to read it.

    3. My problem with that is you say "none of God's children will be damned" yet in the bible we are ALL God's children but it also says that you will be damned if you do not follow God, that doesnt make you not His child, so it is contradictory because if Jesus died so noone may perish then whether or not you follow the bible or God you should be able to be saved from damnation, because that is why His Son died...

  7. perhaps we have it all wrong and god is the evil one satan good perhaps? perhaps god has a higher master and he didnt follow his instructions perhaps the devil is the righteous one who is trying to steer humanity in the direction chosen by the supreme being? there is a god there is a devil who made them? where did they come from? a higher master of course

god: ONE of several deities, esp. a male deity, presiding over some portion of worldly affairs

Satan: The devil. In the Bible, Satan is identified with the tempter who encourages the fall of Adam and Eve; he is the accuser who torments Job in the hope that he will curse G

  8. God and Satan, good and evil, winning and losing. i feel that everything is within our mind. don't take me as an atheist, but all these external creations and notions are the product and outcome of what happens within ones mind.

everything starts once u think about it. u think it is good, u think that is bad. if we take the life of animals. they are driven by their instincts, food, water and sex.but humans life are much more complicated. we take the angle of good and bad always. hence comes the god and devil.

but i dont know yet today what can be said as actual good and bad, because there is justification for everything. u kill a man, u have sinned, u r an army man and u kill ur adversary army men, then u r the hero of ur country. u kill for self defence, then u r brave and innoccent. u kill when u r insane, then u r a 'special' person who needs professional help.

even though it is difficult, i feel that living by your basic instincts may simplify ones life. animals never have forced sex. all this notions of bible, devil and god is beyond our imagination and a 100 can interpret it in a 200 ways.

leave god, leave devil, leave bible, live as u wish as long as it dosent hurt others.

    1. Well said sudeep! And this brings me back to one of the points that i was talking about. Just like animals we all are born with natural laws already incorporated within each of us. (with a few exceptions like the "special" people that have something unnatural going on upstairs) but u brought up a good point, that animals know to eat, drink, mate etc. and no i have never known of any animals ever going out and killing or raping just for fun. And they don't pass judgement and/or slaughter or burn the other animals because they don't drink from the preferred lake or whatever. they have these instincts and nobody has to tell them what needs to be done or that killing is wrong because they know these things already. seriously animals don't have a bible to tell them how to act yet they have better conduct than a lot of humans do! And they don't tell each other about who God or Satan supposedly are yet they know the difference between good and bad. If an animal or a small child is in the presence of evil they know! And they let it be known by running away or crying out. If we humans could just try to stick to the original plan we were all born with before the bible and all its atrocities was spoonfed to us, maybe there would be a lot less hatred and evil and ignorance among humans because it seems to me that the bible is what's been keeping so much bad circulating for so long. People please don't go through life doing and believing only what another person or a book written by people tells u! Don't even listen blindly to me! Just use your "God-given minds" and go with what u Know. And if it harms none, do what u will.

Animals do kill other animals for their territory. if we take the lion kingdom males are suppossed to protect their territorry from other encroaching male lions. but moreover than killing, they gets defeated or injured and the winner takes hold of the pride. i think that we r missing the point.

  10. God and the Devil played dice. God lost this time (COME ON, ITS BORING WHEN YOU AND YOUR RIVAL IS OF EQUAL STRENGTH AND CANNOT DIE) so the loser (GOD) had to lose knowledge of who he is by desending down into the winners's 'creation = the world as we know it' until such time as he can figure out who he is and free himself' So....its really simple, realise who you are and set yourself free...meanwhile you can piss the Devil off by having as much fun during your punishment as you possibly can! Cheers and remember ' its only a game '

  11. More people have died because of the interpretation of the bible than in any war. What if we come up with a new one and flip the names of God and Lucifer will that change the outcome of future followers? What the hell, what do we have to loose?

    ReplyDelete
  12. That would of course be quite a clever deception. I have read the bible several times, and still can't make sense of half of it. There are very few straight to the point passages, and most of the messages written are hidden in near impossible to figure out riddles, most of which are interpreted differently by all who read them. I do believe in balance. Good and evil, right and wrong, good and bad, heaven and hell, night and day, etc. So if Satan did in fact write the bible(s), it would stand to reason that God would counter such an act with an equal or greater representation of himself. Here's the rub however. Just as our laws state that "ignorance of the law does not dismiss a person from their actions." An example of course would be that, a person does not know that if they look at a person for more than a minute, that the person being looked at could in theory claim harassment, and that person is taken before a court of law, the person in question would be charged regardless of their awareness that they'd done something wrong. Similarly, just because God has not come out and handed us a manual, we can't find it, we can't read it, or given us solid proof of his righteousness, does not mean that those who have not seen such proof will be innocent on judgment day. Some say that a bible, separate from the one we are accustomed to exists, but has been hidden from the world by those who refute it's contents. However, if God did indeed want man to accept him and his words, then he would of course counter those people in some way. My personal opinion is that the bible as we know it today may have in fact been written by God, but has been altered and shortened to fit man's idea of who God should be. Such an act would of course be a work of Satan, and man's ability to be tempted would serve to Satan's benefit. Some would argue that many of the things people do are done by Satan's influence. My opinions are constantly being changed however, due to new findings. I am on the edge of believing that God made a mistake when he gave man free will to do as he pleases, with only the ultimate consequence to fear, and that is rotting in hell for all eternity. You could probably hold in the palm of your hand people who actually live by the word every single day of their life without sin, and that may even be overstating it. There are just too many things in this world that feel good to us to deny our own impulses. If God's word is his own in representation by the bible, then God wants us to suffer on this earth by denying ourselves the simple pleasures that he dangles under our noses. If he is the creator, then he gave us the ability to feel pleasure, and yet tells us to resist those feelings to honor him. Sick trick.

  13. Jenner, thanks for your thoughts. You are obviously a very thoughtful person, one who is trying to find answers to some perplexing questions.

As for me, the answer is simple: Men and women wrote the Bible, mostly as metaphorical stories that were supposed to teach lessons or record historical events (often exaggerated, because the scribes worked for the kings). Then men (no women this time) declared it to be the word of God.

You might be interested in Joseph Cambell's writings on the power of mythology. He is very eloquent and convincing when he talks about the beautiful wisdom of the Bible, wisdom that only makes sense if you understand that it's metaphor, not history.

You don't have to reject your belief in God to reject the divinity of the Bible. Humans have been subjugating each other since the beginning of humanity, and the Bible is just one chapter of that story.

  14. This is doing a few things that are assuming alot, right?!?!?

First would be assuming since you dont believe in God(am i correct?) that there IS a God and satan.

Secondly would be your assumption that this God you dont believe in is actually good and satan is not. So why would God who would be good, and as we know God(perfect) need to defend himself at all; especially if Satan actually did write the Bible. The only reason God would have to testify to writing the Bible is if He actually wrote it.

I guess it couldnt have been humans who werent able to understand clearly the meaning of the Bible but God who was wrong. Obviously if there is a God then he would make his creations smarter than He, if thats possible.

This also assumes that satan wants people to join him in hell. When in fact he wants nothing of the sort. He wants a war with God and one that he knows he will lose by constant self promotion of himself in such Bible and then subsequent shows of defeat to God. A writer, even on half truths for confusion, would never show his own weakness and eventual defeat, but would rather never mention himself at all at the scene of the crime. He needs an alibi.

  15. aNON makes a convincing case. This one:
"...he will lose by constant self promotion of himself in such Bible and then subsequent shows of defeat to God."

We have history to find out. I mean the history that is not yet written, of course.

  16. Supposedly Satan in the author of CONFUSION, and so maybe this is why the Bible seems so terribly confused and confusing. Jehovah/Yahweh/YHWH perpetrates far more evil acts than Satan does and in 1 Chronicles 25:15 seems that his commands to an angel are creating so much EVIL that he tells the angel to stop and then repents of the evil He has done. Yikes, this means that this "being" is NOT perfect, makes mistakes.IS evil, and knows that He is. This is the wonderful all powerful being which the US claims, collectively, to trust and to "be under." Maybe that's why we destroy countries around the world and are some $14 TRILLION dollars in debt. "One nation, under God . . . " apparently.

but during my studies i begin to see the god of the bible with many human trates. Jealousy anger and wrath is commonly seen in the bible yet Christians preach of a loving god. It is truly a grotesque text.

  20. man created god (or the idea/interpretation of God in the bible that people worship) in his image and likeness. This is why the bible is as flawed and stupid as its writers - because it was written by men and used by men in power to exert influence and control.

I am not sure if there is a god or not, but I am sure the bible can't be written by a being who is as "perfect" as followers say he/she/it/they is/are.

  21. The more of the bible I read the more confused I am. With each page that turns I feel fear well up inside of me. God surely did not wish to leave me with feelings of fear and harsh judgement. God's love grows my spirit and inspires me through love. God's love leaves me feeling healthy, happy, whole and perfect. The feeling the bible gives me is fear. The bible depicts a God that I certainly do not trust in or believe in. THANK GOD, (the unconditionally loving, perfect and healing GOD) that I am finding a few like minds. For it is you who inspire me to be true to the the REAL GOD.

    2. I disagree. Genesis told us about creation and man's rebellion against God, then the old testament told us about the Nation Israel that God had chosen to represent him and how these people sin against God time and time again. The whole theme of the old testaments is about how sin has severed man's relationship with a Holy God.
Then came Jesus (God in the flesh) to die for you and me so that our corruption was covered by his blood thus allows you and me to have a relationship again with a Holy God. It is a love story written in blood over 2000 years ago. I hope you will someday able to see it.

I have to believe in a Higher Being because i feel we and our beautiful Earth and all the amazing minds in this world got here Somehow. Yet this so called "GoodBook" has pure evil being portrayed as the Only way! "Boil and Eat your children"!? "Dash them to pieces"!? REALLY??! NOT MY IDEA OF A LOVING BEING. And where did my idea of a loving being come from? I'm thinking that all or most of us already know because maybe it is incorporated into us when we are created (by the loving being that really made us and not the hateful evil one portrayed in the "Holey Bible")

    1. Like many Christians, you deftly avoid addressing the real issue. The Bible is full of contradiction and immorality, and the god it portrays is often immoral by anyone's standard, including the Bible's. Saying that it's all about faith is a cop-out. All you're saying is, "We can't explain all this horrible stuff, so you have to just believe that somehow, beyond all logic, God is really not as bad as the Bible says he is."

If you want to address the issues head on, please do. But don't fall back on the "faith is better than reason" argument, because it's a completely empty.

But I know you won't address any of the real points of this blog, because there are no answers. The Bible really is full of contradictions, and it's utterly impossible to believe that the God you believe in wrote it.

  24. I grew up in an extremely pious family and dedicated my life to understanding how to best to serve God, but found myself disgusted with the intolerance for questions the church had as I got into my teens. By my mid twenties I had spent several years studying and participating in as many religions as I could. In this, I came to a similar conclusion; all major monotheistic religions were written with the same intent, to control and enslave people. I have said for years, if I were the evil one (in the bible's sense) and my goal was to harm humanity, the first thing I would do is write a book and call it a "holy book," describing myself as a God of goodness, describing how I love and care for all of my followers. I would instill fear in all of people, by making them believe that they will be punished if they do not follow my commands, and then make them feel better by letting them know they can find their way back to me as long as they worship me and ask me to forgive them. I would also be sure to let them know that there will be an evil one that will attempt to "trick" them into thinking for themselves and exercising their free will. I would tell them that I gave them this free will and they can do what they want, but if it's not as I want them to, they will be punished. I would hide little codes in the book, like calling the "evil" one lucifer (which actually means the enlightened one). I would fill the book with prophecies that I would be certain to have my fraternal order carry out to add further trust in my book. As a result, I would have billions of christians, muslims, and alternative sects, all awaiting my return as their savior. I would have billions of willing slaves ready to enter my kingdom that I call Heaven. After all, the religious gladly proclaim that they are "Servants" of god. One of only a few clear concepts portrayed in the bible is that people will be "worshipping and serving god" while in heaven. All the while, there is no servitude ever described of hell, only a fear mongering ideology based on our worst concept of dying (burning). However, no one ever asks, how will you feel the pain of burning without a physical body? You also never hear of Satan being wrathful, yet you always must fear the Wrath of God. All of these things have intrigued me for almost a decade. I am very pleased to see someone has finally written about this. Thank you Craig.

  25. Craig, I am curious about your take on the Illuminati? There is certainly evidence of such a group, and much of which appears to have links to a very harmful agenda. Christians want to claim it's the work of the devil, but as a master deceiver, I question if the there is perhaps knowledge hidden inside this group to break people free of the religious control. By decorating the symbols with negativity and harmful ideas, it repulses people (religious and not) from looking at them and their beliefs deeper. Though it is very hard to look past the negativity associated with this group, I can't help but wonder if there is something positive buried in the illusion of evil. What do you think? Have you entertained such a thought?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I have to leave speculation about such groups to people more qualified than myself. I'm sure there are groups out there of every stripe and color, but I'm also sure that their influence and size is greatly magnified by the "urban legend" effect (i.e. memes that grow and mutate as they spread), by paranoid conspiracy theorists, and by people like Dan Brown who make money off by doing so.

And even if you could root out the truth and document it with incontrovertible evidence, nobody would care! If you discovered there was no such thing, the conspiracy theorists would discount you as a schill. If you discovered a massive plot, then the people running that plot must by definition have huge influence, and would ensure that your work was discredited.

The truth is almost surely that there is no massive secret organization, but there are surely secretive groups doing just about anything you can imagine.

  26. You will only understand the truth of the bible with the help of the Holy Spirit. If you don't have the spirit of God inside you, you will read like any ordinary book, and leave without taking anything, confusing yourself.

    1. If the "Holy Spirit" can convince you that the genocide, infanticide, rape, torture, murder, polygamy, incest, adultery, animal cruelty and other gross immorality of the Bible is good, then it proves my point. If you believe in God and Satan, then you can only conclude that God is NOT the author of the Bible. It's ridiculous. If God did exist, the Bible would be an insult to his name.

Just read it with an open mind for once instead of with all of your preconceived ideas.
