Muslim Mothers Help Each Other Kill Daughters for Marrying Hindus

It's so nice when neighbors in need can help each other. Especially when the task at hand is something really unpleasant ... like helping each other murder their daughters.

Two Muslim mothers, Khatun and Subrato, discovered that their daughters had eloped with two Hindu men. Apparently that's just about the most shameful thing a girl could do – so shameful that the mothers decided they had to kill their own daughters.

So Khatun and Subrato tied the two young brides, Zahida, 19, and Husna, 26, to their cots with ropes, threw nooses around their necks and tightened the nooses until their daughters were dead.
“We killed them because they had brought shame to our community. How could they elope with Hindus? They deserved to die. We have no remorse."
And what did the local law enforcement do about this? It turns out the girls knew there would be trouble and asked the police for protection. The police didn't know what to do, so they referred the young brides to the magistrate. The magistrate (also a Muslim) called the mothers in, made them sign a bond promising not to harm their daughters, and sent the mothers and daughters home.

When asked why he sent the girls home to their mothers in spite of their fears, he said he was trying to prevent an attack by the community on the young couples.
“This is a communally sensitive area. Had we not asked the women to return to their homes, the villagers would have killed all four, triggering riots."
So the two mothers weren't unique. They were just being good citizens. They were doing what any good member of their Muslim community would do.

  1. Just about all religions, including Christianity have a similar bloody history of things we find completely irrational today. Islam is not unique in this regard.

  2. @ Alyssa

They have a "history"? African countries and American conservatives are really big on cleansing Africa of gays right now. It's still completely irrational today.

  3. If they eloped why weren't they with their new husbands? I wouldn't stick around if I thought my family would kill me, especially knowing the religion.
