They start with the laughable claim that Alfred Kinsey, the sex researcher who pulled us out of the dark ages of sexual repression, was a pedophile. From there, they build a case against every advance we've made about sex and sexuality since 1950, and conclude that our legal system should return to Bible-based laws!
Here is what these ultra-conservative religious nutcases would do:
"Pre-Kinsey, sex laws were based on biblical authority and considered an area of 'public rights,' meaning we recognized sex had civil consequences on society," Reisman said. "Post-Kinsey sex laws are based on 'scientific authority' and are considered 'private rights,' which claims sex has no social consequences."
In other words, if they were in charge, the government would have the right to peek into your bedroom and decide what's legal and what's not. We'd be back to the days when even a married couple could land in jail for enjoying anything beyond "missionary" sex. And of course, any sort of "deviant" behavior such as homosexuality would be illegal. You think I'm exaggerating?"Only seven years ago, the Supreme Court case Lawrence vs. Texas, which struck down all anti-sodomy laws in the nation, was based on Kinsey."
Got that? They're quite clear about it. Or consider this:No-fault divorce, the decriminalization of adultery and even the decision by the American Psychiatric Association to no longer consider homosexuality a sexual disorder, Reisman said, are the result of using Kinsey data ...
So if these people got control of our country:- Divorce would require a finding of fault, forcing couples who are already deeply sad to engage in bitter, cruel fights.
- Adultery would be a crime, which means something like half of all men and a quarter of all women would be criminals. Someone who'd committed adultery wouldn't dare admit it to his/her spouse or seek counseling, because there'd be a good chance of landing in jail.
- Gays and lesbians would be criminals, and it's hard to imagine where transgender citizens would be.
In "Sexual Sabotage," you will discover ... [why] a return to pre-'50s American morality is more essential now than ever
And that, my friends, is the perfect illustration of why the authors of the United States Constitution were so adamant that our government should be secular, not religious. They were wise indeed!By the way, I'm not even going to address their claim that Kinsey was a pedophile, a poor scientists, or that he distorted his statistics. Kinsey's data has been scrutinized more closely and by more scientists that almost anything else ever published, and his results are considered to be excellent. The author's claims show an embarrassing ignorance of scientific methods, and a twisted mind that turns our natural, healthy love and lust into something awful. Reviews of Kinsey's work have uncovered a few mistakes, and in some cases it appears Kinsey obscured the sources of his information because it was so objectionable. But on the whole, Kinsey's research is top quality. Kinsey definitely "pushed the envelope" when studying things that were considered immoral or deviant, but this doesn't alter the accuracy and quality of his data.
